What will you be doing?
As General Counsel at Jumbo Group, you will play a pivotal role in guiding the company through complex legal, regulatory, and compliance landscapes. You will provide strategic legal advice to the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors, ensuring that the business operates within all applicable laws and governance frameworks. Your expertise will support key commercial decisions, mergers and acquisitions, and contractual negotiations, helping to drive Jumbo’s continued growth and success.
In this senior leadership position, you will also oversee the legal, risk and compliance functions, manage relationships with external legal advisors, and lead initiatives to enhance legal service delivery across the organisation. Your role will be critical in maintaining robust corporate governance and regulatory compliance, safeguarding Jumbo’s reputation and operational integrity.
What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like
Lead and manage the Group Legal function, ensuring effective delivery of legal services across the business
Provide proactive legal advice and support to the Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team on a wide range of commercial, regulatory, and compliance matters
Oversee the Group’s compliance with relevant laws and regulations across multiple jurisdictions, including corporate, gambling, privacy, employment, and consumer laws
Manage corporate governance processes, ensuring adherence to ASX Corporate Governance Principles and regulatory requirements
Support the Company Secretary in meeting statutory listing and governance reporting obligations
Prepare and present reports and briefings to the Audit & Risk Management Committee on compliance and legal risk management
Lead contractual and commercial negotiations, drafting, and review to protect the Group’s interests
Manage relationships with external legal service providers to ensure efficient and cost-effective legal support
What You’ll Be Able to Bring to the Role
A Bachelor of Laws degree complemented by a postgraduate legal qualification and current admission as a Legal Practitioner with a valid Practising Certificate.
Over 10 years of post-qualification experience in corporate and commercial law, ideally within ASX-listed or regulated industry environments.
Deep expertise in the Corporations Act, ASX Listing Rules, corporate governance frameworks, and regulatory compliance for listed companies.
Proven ability to navigate complex multi-jurisdictional legal and regulatory landscapes, including Australian, UK, Canadian, and US laws related to gambling, privacy, employment, and corporate matters.
Strong experience advising Boards and Board Committees on legal, governance, and regulatory issues, with excellent influencing and communication skills at executive and director levels.
High commercial acumen with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives to deliver pragmatic, risk-aware solutions.
Commitment to ethical practices, risk management, and fostering a culture of integrity and compliance.
Exceptional stakeholder management and leadership skills, with experience managing legal teams and collaborating effectively across all levels of an organisation.
Excellent drafting, contract negotiation, and presentation skills, with confidence in representing the company in complex legal and commercial discussions.
Salary Banding: $250,000 - $300,000 + Super + STI
