Operational Risk & Compliance Manager
We usually respond within a week
Over the past 30 years, we've grown from humble beginnings with a single computer to a global technology company (ASX-300 listed company, JIN). Partnering with over 15,000 good causes worldwide and having raised more than $260 million through our partnerships. Innovation isn't just part of what we do; it's who we are.
We develop cutting-edge solutions empowering our lottery and not-for-profit partners to raise funds for their vital causes. We believe in fostering an environment where our people can innovate, grow, and have fun.
What will you be doing?
As our Operational Risk & Compliance Manager, you'll bridge the gap between what we need to comply with and how we actually operate. You'll bring together intelligence from across our business – suspicious behaviour patterns, regulatory requirements, quality assurance feedback, and what we're hearing from customers – and shape it into practical strategies that keep us running smoothly and safely. It's about understanding how our business really works, spotting the risks that come with that, and finding smart ways to manage them.
You'll lead our compliance team, work closely with colleagues in marketing, customer services, and technical areas, and keep our leadership in the loop, and create frameworks that help everyone understand operational risk in a business context. Rather than managing endless risk registers, you'll focus on the gray areas – where compliance meets commercial reality. You'll help us understand which operational risks to address, which ones we can live with, and how to talk about those decisions. Your role will be vital to keeping us growing while managing the operational, regulatory, and commercial risks that come with operating an e-commerce lottery site.
What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like
- Collate and analyse insights from across the business – fraud indicators, compliance findings, QA feedback, and customer support data – to identify operational risks and drive mitigation strategies
- Oversee and mentor the compliance team, providing strategic direction on operational risk management while maintaining clear delineation between compliance (black and white) and operational risk (grey areas)
- Develop and implement control frameworks and risk assessment processes to address gaps in how operational incidents are categorized, managed, and escalated
- Oversee the ongoing management and maintenance of our obligations register, ensuring appropriate controls are in place and known across the organization
- Work with senior stakeholders to assess likelihood and impact of identified operational risks, make informed recommendations, and determine the appropriate level of risk acceptance for the business
- Collaborate with marketing, customer services, and engineering teams to balance compliance and risk mitigation with commercial objectives
- Escalate significant operational risks to leadership with clear documentation, recommendations, and context on potential business impact
- Translate complex compliance requirements into practical, operationally feasible solutions that protect the business without unnecessary constraints
- Communicate operational risk assessments and decisions to different stakeholders – tailoring messaging for executives, department heads, and coordinators as appropriate
- Develop compliance strategies and work with senior managers to embed risk-aware practices across teams
- Navigate and support the business through organisational change, particularly as decision-making authority and operating models evolve
What You’ll Be Able to Bring to the Role
- Proven experience in operations management or a related role in a regulated or complex business environment
- Tertiary qualifications in business assurance, risk management, law, or a related discipline (or equivalent demonstrated experience)
- A strong track record of working operationally across business functions and understanding how organisations actually work
- Experience in digital, e-commerce, or regulated industries (such as gambling/lottery) – or demonstrated ability to quickly understand industry-specific risk
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex information for different stakeholders – from executive leadership to operational teams
- Strong commercial acumen paired with the ability to assess and balance risk against business impact
- Demonstrated influence and persuasion skills – the ability to guide teams toward informed decisions, even when those decisions involve accepting calculated risks
- Comfort working in ambiguous, grey-area situations where decisions aren't always black and white
- The ability to identify gaps and underlying issues – reading between the lines to uncover what's not being explicitly communicated
- Experience collaborating with compliance, legal, and technical teams to identify and mitigate operational risks
- Capability to step into leadership responsibilities and manage complex stakeholder relationships
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to build frameworks and processes that turn insights into actionable risk management strategies
- Comfort working in a maturing operational environment
